Shelley grew up in New York before making her home in Columbus, Ohio and wondering why she hadn’t lived here always.
She has a degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from Kenyon College. She saw her degree as a means to help others using her scientific and mathematical skills. However, after discovering that Neuroscience research was not for her (too many of her co-workers were rats), she entered the social services field instead. After a while, she found her way into teaching English as a Second Language and loved meeting people from all over the world.
However, she missed the sciences. She watched programmers, sitting quietly at their desks, typing code, having a far-reaching impact on the world. Often for the better. She went back to school to become a cool nerd who could help others. This time, a computer nerd instead of a neuroscience nerd.
At Buckeye Innovation, she has found a meeting of minds in their mission to help organizations and businesses grow their positive impact on the community.
In her spare time, Shelley enjoys baking (she is a Baker after all) international breads and cookies. Her latest: Finnish Pulla, Dutch Honingkoek, and Indian Kalakaand. She also binge watches Nordic mystery series. An avid reader, her library card is often maxed out.
