The Challenge: Creating a Central Hub for a Growing, Multi-Stakeholder Nonprofit

The Foundation for Autoimmune Cancer Support (FACS) is the first nonprofit of its kind to bring together patients, caregivers, doctors, researchers, and pharma partners in one unified mission: helping people live better during and after immunotherapy cancer treatment. With the rise of immunotherapy as a standard approach to fighting cancer, FACS recognized a critical gap in support and education. The organization aims to address the lack of accessible information for the often unpredictable and serious side effects that come with these treatments.

When FACS first approached Buckeye Innovation, their online presence was limited to a Canva document that offered few engagement options. Their essential information was stored mostly in a Google Drive, which was inaccessible to the public. They needed a true digital home: a space where people from diverse backgrounds and needs could find each other, get credible information, and contribute to a new era of cancer care. The website needed to serve a range of audiences—from newly diagnosed individuals and caregivers to expert clinicians and global pharmaceutical companies—while remaining approachable, accurate, and easy to use.

The Process: Designing with Empathy, Building with Purpose

Through regular working sessions with the FACS team, we uncovered the core needs: a welcoming but authoritative tone, easy navigation across many stakeholder groups, and a digital structure that could grow alongside the organization.

From there, we collaborated on branding, including creating a logo and brand colors that felt inclusive of all cancer types. We created a simple and intuitive site map, and integrated essential functionality like searchable expert directories, curated educational resources, and ways to connect with the broader FACS community. Our team also repurposed content like research charts, educational copy, and clinical data from their existing materials. During this process, we worked with FACS to refine the language to be accessible to non-medical audiences. This allows the website to serve more users and perform better for search engine optimization.

To keep the project affordable for a new nonprofit, we used Buckeye Innovation’s pre-built page templates for both the homepage and interior pages. We then added global styles to ensure that colors, fonts, and styles stayed consistent throughout the site. This allowed us to deliver a customized, on-brand experience without the expense of building every piece from scratch. It also gave us room to focus more deeply on design and content curation.

Finally, we equipped the FACS team with tools to sustain the site over time. These resources include hands-on training, documentation, and custom video tutorials. Whether they’re adding new clinical trials, updating partner organizations, or sharing new research, the team can manage their site confidently and independently.

The Impact: Changing the Script for Immunotherapy Patients

The new FACS website is more than a digital upgrade; it’s a powerful, functional hub for community, knowledge, and change. It gives people receiving immunotherapy a place to learn, find experts, and connect with others on a similar journey. The site supports clinicians and researchers in staying current with the fast-moving science around autoimmune side effects from cancer treatment. It gives pharmaceutical sponsors a reason to engage— and a place to focus their efforts.

Now, FACS is positioned to reach and serve its diverse audiences with clarity and compassion. Visitors can easily navigate to vetted content tailored to their needs. Whether it’s  finding a symptom explanation, signing up for a clinical trial newsletter, joining a support community, or reading the latest research, FACS has resources available. The site elevates FACS’s mission and message: helping people live better beyond cancer by uniting science, care, and community.

We’re proud to have a hand in creating a platform that helps people live better beyond cancer by uniting science, care, and community. FACS isn’t just another cancer site. It’s a living resource built to grow, inform, and support those changing the future of cancer treatment.
