Creating shareable memories with custom digital photo frames
Delaware County District Library needed a web engineering partner to revamp their website. They wanted a contemporary design and a modern software build. Additionally, they wanted to improve their visitor experience plus have easy ongoing maintenance. With that in mind, we felt our experience with library systems (Communico, Bibliocommons, Polaris, and more) at Central Ohio libraries made us a natural fit for a partner. Within the project, we helped them integrate their global search feature with their Polaris content. Additionally, we populated their event calendar with our custom Communico integration. But that’s not where our partnership began! For their previous Drupal site, we generated an event feed to pull a list of upcoming events into an Alexa skill.
Delaware Library’s new website was responsively designed, tested, and optimized for ADA accessibility. Also, it was built on the WordPress content management system. But before we did the design and build, we did an audit. Our audit showed us that the site had a lot of clutter. Clutter on a website can result in page abandonment.
Because of this, we decided to fine-tune their site’s current information. We knew this would help in eliminating clutter. We also decided to eliminate their old navigation and old page layouts. Furthermore, it was important to have a clear sense of digital typography hierarchy and an on-brand color palette. Last but not least, we included a few different interior page concepts to target their many different audiences.
Before we got started on their new site layout, we decided to conduct a quantitative assessment of their existing content. Our content inventory informed our gap analysis and sitemap. For the gap analysis, we took an in-depth look at what was already on their site and what was missing. We wanted Delaware Library to have relevant content that made them stand out.
Afterwards, we were able to put together a fleshed out sitemap that made sense to their user’s journey.
The result was a responsive, uncluttered, beautiful website that the team at Delaware County could easily maintain, with relevant, unique content.
