The Challenge

A chance at a better life

When we first started working with Opportunity Port, the task before us was monumental. We needed to build a website and custom application that would make the record sealing application process easier for those eligible. Because with sealed records, the greater the chances are to thrive with better jobs, education, and housing. But we were glad to take on the challenge, and motivated to see it through.

The Process

Pushing beyond our comfort zone

Because of the significance of the outcome, this involved extensive research and collaboration to create the best possible user experience for an underserved population in Franklin County, Ohio. So our team pushed beyond our comfort zone to find solutions for this systemic problem. Our goal was to make the process as simple as possible for that community. And at the same time, we needed to meet all the legal requirements involved in each step.

The Buckeye team approached each task with purpose by strategically building the application flow to maximize the user experience for applicants, lawyers, and administrators. For instance, a clean, uncluttered design helps create an anxiety-free experience. Additionally, straightforward verbiage makes the process easy for users of all backgrounds to understand.

The Impact

Serving an underserved community

As a result,  we were able to create an informative website; an intake form that’s simple for applicants to navigate; and a dashboard that helps lawyers and administrators more easily process applications and connect with applicants.

“Thanks to Buckeye’s adaptability and the team’s talent, curiosity, and dedication, we launched the best possible version of Opportunity Port. Throughout the project, Buckeye worked tirelessly to understand the legal services environment and record sealing, which is not an easy feat because there is no clear one-size-fits-all solution. Even so, they never wavered when we encountered roadblocks and were always in the trenches alongside me because they believed in the mission of the work as much as I did. I might have been the customer, but most of the time I felt like a team member and a collaborator. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for having worked with Buckeye on this project. They made all the difference.”
