We are so pleased to welcome Disha Purkar, Software Engineer Intern, to the team. You can learn more about Disha below.
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I am from New Albany, Ohio. Fun fact: I have lived in the same house since I was born!
What interests you about software engineering? What areas of the field do you like to focus on?
Software engineering encompasses so many different interests, such as developing apps, making products pretty and easy to navigate, utilizing databases, and so much more. For me, especially, I love how I can use software engineering to connect to a variety of personalities through apps and websites, either built together or navigated together.
That being said, I don’t have a specific area of the software engineering field that I focus on because I want to keep exploring so that I may eventually find one that I have learned to love just a little more than the others.
Do you have a code of ethics or a mantra that you live by when doing your work?
When doing my work, whether it’s for school or outside of school, I live by the common phrase “I can do it” because the first hurdle in every problem I encounter is self doubt, but by reassuring myself that “I can do it” I build up my confidence to conquer the task.
How do our core values (collaboration, initiative, ingenuity) align with your own?
I believe Buckeye’s core values are the basis for how I strive to live my life. I have learned through group projects in school that collaboration is key to ingenuity. When stuck with only your ideas, one can be quite inventive, but by bouncing ideas around a group of people, it can evolve into the perfect idea you never would have believed was possible on your own. Taking initiative is also key to moving projects along and allows for continuous collaboration. If ideas and plans are stuck stewing in your head, no matter how ingenious they are, nothing will come out of that. By stepping up and taking initiative, others will follow your lead, and wonderful things can be created.
What do you want to learn over the summer as a Software Engineer Intern?
I would love to get more experience in coding and learn more about UX since it’s such an important part of a website. I am also very interested in learning about the business side of companies and building project proposals, and meeting with clients.
So far, I am still gaining knowledge about what software engineering even is, so I am excited to learn about the areas and parts that I may not even know exist!
What do you want to learn about the web development industry?
My answer to this question is a little similar to the previous question, but I would also love to learn about the time commitment to maintaining a website built for a client. I know that websites are very dynamic for an organization, so it would be interesting to learn more about the business model.
If you could teleport anywhere right now, where would you go?
My top priority on my bucket list for my life is to travel to every continent, so it’s hard to choose just one place, but at the moment, my top three places I would love to travel to are Japan, Italy, and Antarctica.
What’s the one piece of tech you can’t live without and why?
Definitely headphones because I cannot imagine a life without being able to listen to music whenever and wherever I want to.
